Welcome to the Cambiare Clarinet Consort's Home Page!

The Cambiare Clarinet Consort was formed in January 2000 by Lynn Thomas. The clarinet choir is comprised of select students from Ms. Thomas' studio, as well as professional and amateur clarinetists in the Southeastern PA area. Cambiare was formed to give students the chance to work with professionals, and to give them the opportunity to perform chamber music which they otherwise might not have the chance to play. The Consort's repetoire includes all kinds of music from baroque to jazz, classics and modern.

Cambiare was selected to perform at the 2003 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association
as one of 25 performing ensembles, from over 160 who auditioned.
Cambiare has also performed at Neumann College,
Immaculata College, and Elizabethtown College.

Our student members are mostly from the Octorara and Pequea Valley School Districts.
Many have been selected for many area performing groups, including Lancaster County Band and Orchestra, District 7 and 12 band and orchestra, Regional band and orchestra, and the Lancaster Youth Symphony. Graduate members Rachel Turgoose is a music major at Kutztown University; Renee Mendenhall and Laura Bennethum are music majors at Penn State University and West Chester University, respectively; Sarah Smith is a member of the Band and Clarinet Choir at Lafayette College.

About the director...
Ms. Thomas is a private clarinet and flute teacher in Western Chester County and Eastern Lancaster County, and has been teaching woodwinds in southeastern Pennsylvania for over 20 years. She has studied clarinet privately with Donald Montanaro, Harold Karabell, and Raymond Friday, among others, and flute privately with Patricia Kendel.

Part of our studio philosophy is that when you are personally involved in music, it always remains a part of you, and just because you graduate, you do not stop playing! One does Not have to be a music major to continue enjoying and experience playing an instrument. Music plays such an integral part of her students' lives and development, that giving up that part of life is like giving up a part of yourself, and should be avoided at all costs! All of Ms. Thomas' graduated students are encouraged to play in the Consort after graduation.

Ms. Thomas also gives instrumental music recommendations for special needs children. We have seen first-hand the possitve effects playing an instrument can do for a child, and how it affects sensory issues, breathing, hand-eye coordination, spatial coordination, and many other areas. Please email if you have any questions!   In the meantime, for an example of what music can do for your special needs child, please feel free to check out Bugmusic...!

Currently Ms. Thomas is Principal Clarinet of the Delaware County Symphony, Director of Thomas Woodwind Studios in western Chester County, and Executive Director of Instrumental Solutions, Inc., a non-profit organization which gives musical instruments to financially disadvantaged students. Ms. Thomas is a member of the Lancaster County Youth Symphony Board of Directors. (You can find out more about the Youth Symphony at www.lcyso.org. ) She also performs with Vox AmaDeus and is a freelance clarinetist in southeastern PA. Ms. Thomas is also the former Director of Jazz and Woodwinds at Girard College in Philadelphia, and has taught at the Westtown School and Kimberton Waldorf School.
